Pictures!
Hey guys! Finally ready to show some pictures, first of which show a jumping sequence where you must hop across some basic pieces of land. You do this by simply pressing the X button to command your character to jump across. (very original right? Heh.)
Now once you've done this...

there he goes, jumping in to the distance... getting smaller as he moves on.
So, hey look... you crossed to the other side!

Now it's time to swim from here on out... Press X to jump in!
So thats it with the first look at some of the non-battle gameplay...
I'm not ready to give away the battle details yet but here is a image... that I've distorted! Ha! I win.

Has anyone seen that episode of Law and Order: CI with the game developer who murders some chick so his friend comes back to his game design company?
If you have, you'll know what I'm talking about, and if you haven't... just read on!
Law and Order likes to make things up, such as new social styles and terms, like they'll just make up their own net speak that I've never seen used... the show is a bunch of bull really...
In this episode I'm talking about, the man who is designing the game because oppressed with fixing "the wall polygons" ::cough:: and so you see him spending hours late in to the night coding... except the only issue is... what is a wall polygon? lol... how is that any different than a normal polygon? And wouldn't that be up to the artist to fix? and seeing as how a wall is a tall flat surface, there isn't too much to fix... so this is just Law and Order saying stuff they think sounds realistic...
OH MY GOSH THAT PISSED ME OFF!!!!
First off, one man making a video game most likely isn't programming a graphics engine from scratch, that he would need to program in "wall polygons (wth that is)... he would be using some elses, because graphics engines take hours of time, and more than one man...
So Law and Order, pleasee please please please please stop making sthootriott up! it's really lame... ::sigh::
Wall polygons doesn't even sound that cool.
How about...
Hyper Coding Cyrber Tron Mainframe Shooting Murder Machine Game Epic Sounding Phrase Mixed With Propganda That Games = Satan.
That sounds pretty cool... maybe they should use that next time...
Anyone, I'm off to fix the wall polygons.... I must be pretty stupid that it takes me hours to fix a graphics issue... but seeing as how I'm viewing the 3D model in code, no wonder!

Stilling looking for people...
Well, although we've really only talked about one game on here, AckkSoftware has many others in development... Soon the blog will stretch out and show what other projects we got going...
And I also wanted to say that we're still looking for talent.

We're currently looking for new people to join us in our quest to make l33t games, so if you are even remotely talented (maybe we'll see potential, ya never know) in 3D modeling or 2D art, please contact me at andrew_allanson@yahoo.com

3D Stuff
I know I haven't posted many screenshots for the games lately... and I can't, seeing as how I don't have any on my computer... but if you want to see more of our artists work you can see his recent fan model of Link from The Legend of Zelda over at www.cgtalk.com
thats a direct link to the thread there...
And because I'm so nice I'll post the image here...

Today I put some finishing touches on the battle graphics... I'm pretty happy with them I guess.
I've been having some stupid issues with the characters bones so it's kinda funny trying to get some poses down, in the end I just re-rigged the characters so it's all good now.
I'm not entirely sure if anyone actually reads this blog so I guess I can say whatever I want...
Jaffe is too outspoken and makes and idiot of himself by insulting other game designers and pretends he should act like that because it's his personality!
Kinda like what I'm doing right now.
I'm scared that game makers might because like Hollywood stars, rather than just doing a great job, they're going to let their "celebrity" take over them and start mouthing off...
Please, just shut up. If you don't work for Nintendo, there is no need to do stupid slams on them if it's on a personal level. (Say you dislike the product all you want) (you know who I'm talking about)
If you don't like Bush, that's okay whatever, just don't use your status as a game designer to get people to read your political message...
Please, just shut up. Just chill out and make your games!

Fun! ... no.
I've been ultra bored lately... haven't had too much to do... I've taken up 3D modeling, some of the 3D modelers working on the game have been teaching me so I'm progressing really fast!
There hasn't been much for me to do lately on the game so I mostly just play guitar and try and tweak some of the games concepts.

Well today I finally got to do some hands with the game itself.
It was nice to see people wanted my input for the way the games scenes were supposed to
play out! It's kinda funny actually... to write down scenes and imagine them one way, only to see them put in to game engine and having them look completely different.
Not entire a bad thing, just weird.

Animation fun!
Well the animation for each character in the game is well underway, which is pretty exciting. The hero himself is complete... which is pretty cool.
Thats it for now!

Story update 2
Well we made a list of every area in the game and how the story will unfold over each level. Now we're currently working on the background 3D models for each area. One thing I can tell you about the first area is that there will be a very cool set of pillars! Not that anyone cares...
Anyway... the hero for the game is complete, and he came out very cool in my opinion! I didn't have too much to do with his design, but for some reason I did end up designing his hair. hmm...
That's it for now.
C'ya!

Gameplay is fun
Oh, finally it's the weekend! Pity tomorrow is Sunday already.
Well even though it's Saturday we're still working hard, simply because we don't like not working.
Today we're trying to figure out every little detail of the game play so we don't end up wanting to add to the engine when the game is almost complete.
Then we need to build a proper interface, then put it all together.
After that comes level design and finishing every characters animations. Once that's complete we'll put together the cut scenes and publish it!
Soon we'll finally have some screenshots and explain how the game play will work.

Story UPDATE!
Yesterday I spoke about the bad dealings with a bad publisher...
But today I have happier topic. (thankfully)
We've got a good handle the games plot. We've almost finished the entire outline, and now begins the fun task of actually writing the script.
The games engine is nearly complete, we just need to add the interesting gameplay elements which will make it stand out in a world of thousands of video games.
------------
I promised myself I wouldn't do this, but I'm still really angry.
The "PUBLISHER" who wanted to represent us did not respond to our nasty email which basically told 'em where to go... and that's a good thing!
We never sign a contract, we never even came close!
And still they act like they own us. What a joke...
This "PUBLISHER" claims to have spent hours of their time pushing our demo around to other publishers... but... why would a publisher do that when they could just publish the game themselves?
Something sounds a little shady to me!
This is such a joke!
All we did was respond to the email they sent us and talked to them about the game (our last project which will now never see the light of day, due to spite) with them...
They offered us help with the game, but wanted us to make it more "mainstream"... (sigh)...
That would be horrible!
Mainstream games are fine... but don't we have enough of those? We need more originality in life!
So we were supposed to take our unique RPG game and turn it in to a GTA shooter?
That doesn't even make sense...
It's almost as if Rosie had started a game publisher.

wow, this is bad.
Boy this has been a busy day!
And let me tell you, it’s not that we’ve been working our butts off today on the game, it’s that we’ve been working our butts off trying to get bad “publishers” off our backs.
One who had dealings with in the past, who was very angry that we didn’t end up working with them, launched a very unprofessional attack on us.
This includes swearing, personal attacks, and mockery of company.
This has us very upset.
We don’t understand what they want from us!
We’re just making games.
We didn’t sign anything, we just talked about potentially doing business.

Artist
This entry is to explain about our artist for this project. Brian Allanson.
He's a been drawing his entire life (Haven't we all?)...
These pictures are from different projects that we've worked on in the past.
That was for our last project, which is a little bit dead at the moment due to some issues with legal and such...
Now here is a concept drawn from an idea we flirted with... (though I doubt it'll ever get made)
..................
Well that's pretty much all for now...
Please note that the art style of the up coming project that is the main focus of this blog isn't like either of these two drawings at all...
What is the art style?
As if I'd say just yet!

It Starts Today
Hey!
This should be interesting... we few months ago one of our team members said that we should start a blog keeping track of all of our progress in our games. So, I was given the task to start it! Lucky me...
Well, before I go off I guess I should explain who we are. That's actually pretty simple, we're AckkSoftware, a small indie game developer from the states. We've had our dirty little hands in a lot of project over the years we've been working together, but nothing that's been officially released under the name of AckkSoftware. But recently we've had a lot of rough spots, stolen game concepts, dirty contracts, bad ties. But those have all be severed! And we're ready to get down and create some games.
I can't show what we're working on in this post, simply because that would ruin the fun... (and we're sadists)... but I can assure you that within the next month you'll see some screen shots, concept art, and trailers for our up coming game.
Well now, I've explained who WE are, now on to who I am....
My name is Andrew, the lead writer, co-director for the latest project. I'll also be helping with some of the art direction. (A man of many talents if I do say so myself.)
My favorite game designers are Hideo Kojima, and Shigeru Miyamoto. My favorite games are Metal Gear Solid 2/3, Zelda (in general), Final Fantasy IX (I don't care what you say, it's the best.), Bubble Bobble, Super Smash Bro's Melee, Lufia 2, Tales of Phantasia... the list goes on and on!
As for writing, I've never really drawn inspiration entirely from one single person or game. My forte is really writing books. You'll be able to read my first novel which is currently being sold through my Literary Agent.
.... I shall end this here!
